Short Day Sail Experiences from Mounts Bay, Cornwall

This Easter, in association with The Old Coastguard Hotel, Mousehole, we are offering you a unique opportunity to jump on board one of the Nation’s heritage vessels to try your hand at sailing a traditional trading ketch or just relax on the smooth wooden decks and enjoy the day out on the sparkling blue sea exploring the Penwith coastline.

Built in 1904, Bessie Ellen traded around the West of Cornwall carrying cargo such as china clay from Fowey and Charlestown, granite from Porthowstock and amongst other things, manure from Newlyn & St Ives. Working through both World Wars, she survived until power replaced sail.   In 1947 the ship was sold overseas to Denmark where she continued to trade cargo up until 1978.

This fully interactive tour, offers you the opportunity to experience a little of the past and what it was like to be a ships crew. Haul sails, climb the rigging and take the helm to steer our ship along the Cornish Coast.

All voyages start from Queen Mary Pier, Newlyn. Choose to join us for the morning, afternoon or both!

Hot & cold drinks are included along with danish pastries in the morning and a cream tea during the afternoon voyage.
