Take a break and enjoy cool Spanish days in the remote and beautiful area of Galicia. Experience stunning mountains, heady with the scent of eucalyptus, ancient villages and deserted estuaries.

From La Coruna in the north, a town glittering with a million panes of glass, tranquil streets and cool squares, come aboard Bessie Ellen to cruise the spectacular coastline to the major fish port of Vigo, still elegant and busy.

Our passage making will mostly be by day, however, there may be an opportunity for an overnight sail down the coast.

Voyage Description

Having spent some time sailing in these waters we can really explore some great places.

Muros, ancient streets of granite, traditional markets with sourdough loaves the size of mill stones piled high, made to last a fisherman one week at sea.  Fresh fish glitters and the local fishing boats bob to quiet moorings.

Santiago de Compostella can be a shore day, not far by bus and well worth the visit if you don’t have the time to walk the pilgrim trail.

Iles Cies, white sand beaches, now deserted after the summer lies in the sun for you to explore bare foot.

Between each port, we hope you will join us to sail our ship onwards to our winter home.

Useful Information

How to get there:

By Air: La Coruna has low cost flights from Vueling from many UK airports.  Internal flights from Barcelona or Madrid.

Train/Ferry:  Plymouth – Santander with Brittany Ferries or Eurostar changing in Paris for the French rail network.

Where to Stay:

We suggest trip advisor for booking hotels.  The old part of town near the marina is quiet with many restaurants and plenty to see.

Visitor Attractions:

Wander around the town of Coruna at your leisure and enjoy the atmosphere of this great town.

Tower of Hercules, UNESCO-listed Ancient Roman lighthouse – Spain’s 2nd-tallest, at 55m – with a sculpture garden.
